Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced revised all-in freight rates effective 1 October 2026 for shipments originating from Northwest Continental Europe and Scandinavia/Baltic ports to the United States, The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico. These rates remain in effect until further notice and are subject to MSC’s standard terms and conditions—including three days of free time for container pickup and return, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Rate applicability is determined as follows:
— For destinations in the United States, The Bahamas, and Puerto Rico: the applicable rate is based on the container gate-in date at the origin terminal;
— For destinations in Canada and Mexico: the applicable rate is based on the vessel’s commercial sailing date.
All rates are quoted in US dollars (USD), unless otherwise indicated. Euro-denominated charges are converted at prevailing exchange rates per MSC’s published currency policy.
The new Freight All Kinds (FAK) base rates from Antwerp are as follows (USD):
These FAK rates apply exclusively to general cargo classified under Freight All Kinds tariff provisions. Excluded from FAK coverage are IMO-classified hazardous goods, high-value commodities (e.g., electronics, pharmaceuticals, luxury goods), and specialized equipment such as refrigerated containers (reefers), which are subject to separate contractual or spot-rate agreements.
Additional mandatory charges (per container unless otherwise specified):
Supplementary surcharges also apply:
Carrier Security Fee: USD 11 per container;
Peak Season Surcharge: USD 600 per 20-foot container and USD 1,000 per 40-foot container;
EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) Surcharge: EUR 84 per TEU;
Panama Canal Emergency Surcharge: USD 100 per TEU, applicable only to West Coast U.S. ports (Long Beach and Vancouver).
MSC reserves the right to apply additional local, contingency, or regulatory charges where required by law or port authority mandates. Rates for other origin–destination combinations, commodity categories, or equipment types—including reefers, open-top, flat-rack, and tank containers—are subject to separate quotation and agreement. Customers requiring pricing not covered by this announcement are advised to contact their authorized MSC local agency.
