According to the latest navigational advisory issued by the Port Captaincy of Manaus, mandatory draft restrictions are scheduled to commence during Week 40 of 2026 and are expected to remain in effect through at least Week 52.
Impact on Vessel Operations
Hydrological and technical assessments confirm a substantial reduction in permissible navigable draft during this period. As a result, vessels calling at Manaus will operate at reduced draft, leading to lower cargo-carrying capacity and diminished vessel utilization rates.
Operational Implications
The restrictions necessitate several operational adaptations, including but not limited to: revised cargo handling protocols, adjusted vessel deployment schedules, modified routing plans, and increased pilotage fees. Additional costs may also arise from administrative coordination efforts and, where required, the deployment of floating pier infrastructure to ensure safe berthing and container transfer operations.
LWS Application Details
A surcharge of USD 753 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) will be applied as follows:
• Effective 6 September 2026 for imports to Manaus from all long-haul origins
• Effective 5 October 2026 for exports from Manaus to all long-haul destinations
The surcharge applies uniformly to all container types—including dry, refrigerated, special, and tank units—unless otherwise specified in contractual agreements.
Surcharge Review Mechanism
Should river conditions deteriorate further—particularly if the use of floating pier infrastructure becomes operationally essential—CMA CGM reserves the right to adjust the LWS level to reflect associated third-party service costs and logistical arrangements. Any such revision will be communicated proactively to customers via official tariff advisories.
CMA CGM remains committed to transparent communication and continues to closely monitor hydrological data in coordination with local port authorities. Customers will be promptly informed of any material updates affecting service execution or cost structure.
