Freight forwarders must transfer it! Maersk's pricing takes a rollercoaster ride

These adjustments apply to Mexico, South America, Central America and the Caribbean.

PSS Increase for Mexico, the West Coast of South America, Central America and the Caribbean

Effective August 22, 2026, Maersk will raise the PSS for shipments originating from Far East Asia to the following regions:

Mexico
West Coast of South America
Central America
Caribbean destinations, excluding Puerto Rico and Colombia

Correspondingly, the adjusted surcharge will enter into force for Puerto Rico and Colombia on September 4, 2026. The revised surcharge will remain in effect until further notification.

PSS Increase for the East Coast of South America

Maersk will also increase the PSS for cargo from Far East Asia to Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

The new surcharge levels will generally take effect on August 20, 2026, with an exception for cargo originating in South Korea, for which the effective date is set as August 22, 2026.

The adjustment for the East Coast of South America covers shipments originating from Brunei, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Taiwan (China) and Vietnam.

Prior PSS Reduction

Prior to this round of surcharge increases, Maersk had reduced the PSS for shipments from Far East Asia to Mexico, the West Coast of South America, Central America and the Caribbean.

The reduced PSS entered into force on August 3, 2026 for most origins in Far East Asia, while the adjustment took effect on August 14, 2026 for South Korean-origin cargo. Puerto Rico was not included in the scope of this prior reduction.

Following this adjustment, the new round of increases will raise the surcharge by USD 250 per 20-foot container and USD 500 per 40-foot container.

Origin and Equipment Scope

The C1E surcharge notice covers cargo originating from Brunei, China, Hong Kong (China), Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Mongolia, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan (China), Thailand and Vietnam.

Maersk specifies a range of eligible equipment types: dry containers, high-cube dry containers, refrigerated containers, high-cube refrigerated containers, as well as bulk, flat rack, open-top, tank, twin-deck, collapsible flat rack, hive and pallet-wide containers.

Pricing Calculation Rules

The revised surcharges apply to non-SPOT bookings.

For non-FMC shipments, Maersk adopts the scheduled departure date of the first waterborne leg stated in the booking confirmation as the effective date.

For FMC shipments, Maersk adopts the date on which the full container enters the terminal as the effective date.
