MSC reshapes Wallaby service
2026-06-10

According to DynaLiners’ report, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company has adjusted its China-Australia-New Zealand shipping network through the restructuring of its Wallaby service, and has reallocated New Zealand coverage to an independent feeder connection.

Following this adjustment, MSC has removed port calls at New Zealand ports from the Wallaby service to focus exclusively on cargo flows bound for Australia.

As a core component of the restructuring, ports including Auckland, Bluff, Lyttelton, Napier, Port Chalmers and Wellington have been excluded from the Wallaby service rotation. The carrier has also optimized Australian port coverage by removing the second port call at Melbourne.

The adjusted rotation of the Wallaby service now links Shanghai, Ningbo, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Shenzhen (Yantian) and Xiamen, before returning to Shanghai.

MSC will continue to provide indirect connectivity to New Zealand via its Melbourne-based Southern Loop service.

The rotation of the Southern Loop service connects Melbourne with Bluff, Port Chalmers, Lyttelton, Wellington, Nelson, Napier and Bell Bay, before returning to Melbourne.

This network adjustment embodies MSC’s continuous efforts to optimize its service framework, concentrate direct deep-sea shipping capacity on key Australian trade lanes, while retaining access to the New Zealand market via regional feeder connections.
