CMA CGM has announced revised Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates for containerized shipments from Asia to North Europe, effective 15 May 2026, and applicable until further notice.
Under the updated structure, the all-inclusive base rates are USD 1,950 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and USD 3,500 per 40-foot equivalent unit (FEU), covering standard dry containers, high-cube units, and refrigerated (reefer) containers. These rates apply on a base-port-to-base-port basis; cargo moving to or from outlying ports (non-base ports) will be subject to additional port-specific surcharges.
The revised FAK rates encompass shipments originating from all major Asian gateways—including Japan, China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, India, and Bangladesh—and destined for ports across the North European trade lane. This destination scope extends geographically from Portugal in the southwest to Finland and Estonia in the northeast, inclusive of the United Kingdom and all EU and EFTA member states within the region.
Eligible cargo categories include standard dry freight, out-of-gauge (OOG) shipments, temperature-controlled reefer cargo, and paying empty containers—provided they comply with CMA CGM’s equipment eligibility and operational guidelines.
The published FAK rates incorporate base ocean freight and the Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF). Excluded from the FAK are terminal handling charges (THC) at origin and destination, the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) levy, the Emergency Security Surcharge (ESS), and other locally mandated or contingency-related fees—such as documentation, customs clearance, or port congestion surcharges—which remain billable separately based on actual service delivery and regulatory requirements.
Customers requiring clarification on commodity-specific applicability, non-standard port pairings, specialized equipment (e.g., flat-racks, open-tops, or controlled-atmosphere reefers), or contractual rate exceptions are advised to consult their designated CMA CGM account manager or local representative for authoritative guidance.
