Maersk impose PSS from US Gulf to WCSA
2026-04-10

Maersk has introduced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for all non-spot containerized shipments originating from the US Gulf region—including Houston, Mobile, and New Orleans—to ports along the West Coast of South America, effective 6 May 2026, subject to review and potential extension.

Applicable destinations include Buenaventura (Colombia), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Valparaíso and San Antonio (Chile), Callao (Peru), and Arica (Bolivia). The PSS is set at USD 150 per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) and USD 300 per forty-foot equivalent unit (FEU), applicable to dry cargo containers only.

For non-Federal Maritime Commission (FMC)-regulated trades, the PSS is determined based on the vessel’s scheduled departure date; for FMC-regulated trades, it is calculated with reference to the last container gate-in date at the origin terminal. The surcharge will be invoiced and collected in accordance with the agreed freight payment terms. Spot bookings—defined as shipments booked at prevailing market rates without contractual rate commitments—are expressly excluded from this PSS application.
