Hapag-Lloyd adjusts MSW service
2026-04-08

Hapag-Lloyd has implemented a strategic revision of its MSW (Mediterranean–West Coast of South America) container shipping service to enhance network coverage, improve schedule reliability, and better align with evolving trade flows between Europe and Latin America. As part of this optimization, the carrier has introduced a new direct port call while transitioning another hub to transshipment-based connectivity.

MSW Service: Key Adjustments to Port Rotation

The most notable changes include the addition of Callao (Peru) as a new direct port call—strengthening Hapag-Lloyd’s presence in Peru’s primary import/export gateway—and the removal of Buenaventura (Colombia) from the direct rotation. Effective immediately, cargo destined for or originating from Buenaventura will be handled via transshipment through a designated hub port, enabling more efficient vessel utilization and improved frequency on core legs.

Revised Full Rotation Sequence

The updated MSW loop now operates as follows:

Vigo → Málaga → Valencia → Genoa → Livorno → Barcelona → Caucedo → Cartagena (Colombia) → Callao → Paita → Posorja → Guayaquil → Cristóbal (Manzanillo) → Moín → Cartagena (Colombia) → Vigo

All port names are standardized per IMO/UNCTAD nomenclature (e.g., “Livorno” instead of “Leghorn”, “Málaga” with diacritical mark), and the sequence reflects the actual operational clockwise loop, including the return call at Cartagena to ensure seamless cycle closure.
